Research Experience:

• Handling uncertainty: I work on optimizing wireless network resources under channel uncertainty. My goal is to provide performance guarantees, such as interference protection for primary users in spectrum sharing (CBRS) and data rate guarantees for UEs in MU-MIMO settings. To model channel uncertainty, I explore a novel small-data approach, leveraging limited data samples to offer guarantees without assuming an underlying channel distribution.
• Real-time algorithms: I also focus on developing algorithms that meet real-time (wall-clock) requirements for 5G applications. For example, I design scheduling algorithms for 5G base stations that satisfy the 1 ms timing requirement under numerology 0, as mandated by the 5G standard.
• Additional experience: In addition, I collaborate closely with colleagues on projects related to satellite communication, applying Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to eMBB/URLLC multiplexing, and enhancing URLLC for industrial automation.

Biography

Rahul Chintalapati is a PhD student and researcher in Wireless Communications at Virginia Tech, where their research focuses on 5G and Beyond Communications, Non-Terrestrial Networks, Spectrum Sharing, Network Slicing, and NR V2X Communications . Their doctoral work investigates integrated terrestrial-non terrestrial networks (ITNTNs), aiming to enable dynamic spectrum sharing, mobility management, propose architectural enhancements, enable AI assisted communications and O-RAN integration into NTNs. Rahul received his Master's degree in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology in India. Throughout their graduate studies, they have collaborated with Wiireless@VT, Commonwealth Cyber Initiative and National Science Foundation (NSF) on projects involving Vehicular communications, Network Virtualization and Slicing and Non-Terrestrial Networks. Currently working under the supervision of Dr. Nishith Tripathi and Dr. Jeffrey Reed, Rahul has presented his research at several international conferences, including the IEEE VTC 2024 and the IEEE WMCS 2024. He has also authored a book chapter called 'Securing Non-Terrestrial Networks' which was accepted for publication in IEEE-Wiley in collaboration with CCI. Additionally, Rahul is one of the inventors of a patent titled 'Hybrid Device and Network for a Wireless System,' which is currently undergoing PCT process.
