Biography:
Dr Tim Pratt earned his B. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Birmingham in 1963 and 1968. In 1979 he was a visiting professor for five months at Virginia Tech, working with the Satellite Communications Group, led by Dr Charles Bostian. He returned to Virginia Tech permanently in 1981 as an associate professor, and was promoted to professor in 1985.
He worked with the Satellite Communications Group on slant path propagation research until 1990, and wrote the first edition of the ECE 4644 class text, Satellite Communications, with Dr Bostian in the mid 1980s. The text sold 12,000 copies before the second edition came out in October 2002. Dr Pratt has taught one or more classes every semester (or quarter) at Virginia Tech since 1981, and regularly makes the dean’s list of outstanding instructors.Research Areas:
